Adult volunteers have fun too!

Guiding in Lincolnshire North couldn’t happen without our fantastic volunteers and supporters. There are lots of ways to support Girlguiding and we welcome volunteers from all backgrounds, cultures, faiths and abilities. We are very flexible and volunteering can be arranged to fit in with a busy lifestyle.

Maybe you have specialist skills that you can share, or you might want to gain new skills, we can help with that too. We offer everyone lots of support, training and the opportunity to meet new people and have fun. Adults enjoy spending time together with guiding friends, have the opportunity to travel, make memories and celebrate achievements.

It’s really important to Girlguiding that we keep girls and young women safe from physical, sexual and emotional harm.  That’s why we provide all leaders with Safe Space training.

All volunteers must complete a recruitment process which includes references, and anyone working regularly with girls is required to have a criminal record check (known as a Disclosure and Barring Service check, or DBS).

Unit Leaders and Assistant Leaders
Every Rainbow, Brownie, Guide and Senior Section unit has at least one Leader, who has completed the Girlguiding Leadership Qualification. Leaders have overall responsibility for the unit, although this is often shared between a team. Leaders and Assistant Leaders work with the girls to plan activities and to ensure that finances and records are kept up to date.

Unit Helpers and Occasional Helpers
Helpers are vital in enabling the unit to keep running. They help out either on a rota system, or just whenever they can, providing the Leaders with an extra pair of hands. Volunteers have the flexibility and freedom to give whatever time they’re able to.

Support roles
If you want to be part of Girlguiding but don’t have the time to commit regularly, there are plenty of important jobs that can be done in your own time and from your own home that really make a difference.

You could:

• help with the accounts or admin
• be the driver for an adventure away day
• get involved at a Girlguiding volunteer shop
• lend a hand with fundraising for a group trip
• help out with DIY at a meeting place
• take part in a one-off session with your local unit, teaching the girls skills (anything from Judo to gardening) to help them acquire a badge.
